PERIODONTIC TREATMENT
Your gums and surrounding supporting structures are critical to the health of your teeth, gums, and overall health. Our dentist specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, as well as in the placement of dental implants.
Gum disease causes the tissue around the tooth to become loose, allowing plaque and tartar to build up under the gums and form pockets. Our periodontal services help treat your gums and teeth, particularly for those with chronic gum disease.
PERIODONTAL SERVICES
Scaling and Root Planing Below the Gum Line
SCRP removes plaque and bacteria that forms below the gum line. For patients with diabetes and heart disease, SCRP is an important step in preventing bone loss in the mouth. Your hygienist will remove any plaque and other buildup at and underneath the gums, and then smooth the gums back over the roots to ensure your gums seal over your teeth again. Plan for more than one visit and local anesthetic as needed, in addition to some soreness after the procedure while your gums heal.
Periodontal Maintenance to Protect Your Oral Health
Maintenance is crucial to keeping your gums healthy, even after SCRP. Checkups at our Grosse Pointe dental office include a routine cleaning and checking on the health of your gum tissue. This is also important as a follow-up visit after an SCRP procedure, as our dentist will need to monitor how your gums are healing.
